The Michelin Guide's review
Erected in the late 17C, the "triumphal arch" of Peyrou Gate is decorated with bas-reliefs commemorating the victories of Louis XIV and the major events of his reign. Facing le Peyrou: to the north is Louis XIV as Hercules, crowned by Victory; to the south, the taking of Namur in 1692 and the provinces of the Low Countries kneeling before the king. Facing the town: to the north is the linking of two seas by the Canal du Midi and the revocation of the Edict of Nantes to the south.
