The former Gharapuri Island, renamed Elephanta by the Portuguese, is home to a complex of cave temples (5C-6C) dedicated to Shiva. The main cave houses a masterpiece of spiritual sculpture depicting the three faces of the god Shiva - preservation, creation and destruction.
