 Well worth the diversions

  The Michelin Guide's review
Naxos, the largest island in the Cyclades, is renowned for its magnificent beaches, wild coastline, little valleys with fragrant trees, imposing mountains and lovely villages. Naxos Town is known for its old citadel: built on a hilltop, its narrow streets and ramparts have barely changed since the medieval period. It is worth staying on Naxos for a little while, so that you get to stroll round the harbour, see the Mitropolis Museum (remains of the ancient city) and push on to the mountain village of Apiranthos.
