Built in grey volcanic stone, this basilica boasts a remarkable unity of style. Outside, admire the fine but plain east wall with its four radiant apsidioles. The leaves of the three doors have preserved their Romanesque hinges. As with many other major Auvergne churches, the interior is extremely plain. The eye is drawn to a row of pillars towards the chancel, which is bathed in light. Behind the high altar, the famous enthroned Virgin of Orcival is placed on top of a column.
