This huge square was once home to the Roman Field of Mars where military parades took place. It was transformed in the 18C into an area designed for pleasant walks, as well as a venue for markets and artistic and cultural events. The centre is occupied by a charming oval garden planted with plane trees and surrounded by a peaceful canal lined with statues of famous men.
