A Cahuilla legend tells that Tahquitz was the first shaman in the world, sired by Mukat, the creator of all things. Initially benevolent towards men, Tahquitz turned his power against the Cahuilla people, who exiled him to the canyon that today bears his name. Tahquitz Canyon, located on the territory of the Cahuilla Indian Reserve, is walkable. There is an 18m waterfall and Cahuilla petroglyphs.
