The Michelin Guide's review
Started in 1882 to collect objects for teaching, the museum now houses a collection of considerable range and diversity. Among the highlights are the American Painting and Sculpture gallery, including works by Augustus Saint-Gaudens and Frederic Remington; a substantial group of ancient Greek ceramics; and the Roman gallery, with its sepulchral friezes. The Asian galleries trace four millennia of culture through bronzes, prints and calligraphy.
