The Michelin Guide's review
This pink granite column standing some 100m tall (1915) commemorates the victory of Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry (1785-1819) over the British during the War of 1812. With this victory, the Americans took control of Lake Erie and a large part of the Northwest. On a clear day, the view from the observation platform of the nation's third-tallest memorial reaches as far as the battle site, 16km northwest.
