The Michelin Guide's review
The former convent of San Francisco houses the Museo Regional de Querétaro. This magnificent 16C convent, remodelled several times, was built around three patios highlighted by colourful mosaics and planted with mandarin orange trees. The ground floor is devoted to archaeology and Otomi culture. The collection of 17C and 18C paintings upstairs is particularly interesting (works by Cristobal de Villalpando and Juan Correa). Several rooms are devoted to the Independence and Maximilian's sad end.
