The Michelin Guide's review
The subsoil of Rabat is riddled by a huge network of catacombs, originally a pagan cemetery (Phoenician and Roman), then Jewish and Christian, dating from the 2C to the 5C. They feature a variety of elements carved out of the rock: tombs covered by canopies, simple niches and small circular "agape tables" that were used during ceremonial banquets. The tour kicks off in a small museum devoted to funerary rites during Roman times.
