Réthymno's Old Town

City and village
The Michelin Guide's review
With its narrow little streets, the old walled town of Rethymno possesses an undeniable Eastern charm. You enter by the Porta Guora, or Great Gate, the only remaining vestige of the original fortifications. There you will see the domed former Nerantzes Mosque with its slender minaret, as well as two Venetian monuments: the monumental Rimondi Fountain (1629) with its four Corinthian columns and the loggia (late 17C), which the Turks turned into a mosque.
