Via di Città is one of Siena's busiest streets. Paved with flagstones and devoid of pavements, it is lined with mansions and vibrantly coloured red ochre palaces. At no 126 is the Palazzo delle Papesse (1460), from which Galileo observed the moon during his stay in Siena in 1633.
