The Michelin Guide's review
People have been living in this area, west of the town and outside the walls since the 14C. It mainly attracted the poor, especially fishermen, who couldn't afford to live within the ramparts. At the time, the sea reached the rocky slopes of the Marjan. The traces of cliffs can still be seen along the coast, left of the church of St Francis. To the right of the monastery, beyond Sperun Street, a picturesque maze of steep narrow streets rises up the hill.
