  The Michelin Guide's review
Verulamium was one of the largest cities in Roman Britain. It was founded in AD 49, and by around 940 was little more than a "refuge for thieves, body snatchers and women of ill repute". The site is now a public park, called Verulamium Park. The museum provides a fascinating glimpse into Roman times. Only the ruins of the Roman Theatre remain. The hypocaust (central heating system) and remains of the fortifications are also of interest.
