The Michelin Guide's review
Not far from the Roman theatre, the impressive Porta Palatina (1C AD), with four gates (two central gates for chariots and two side gates for pedestrians), is considered one of the best preserved in the Roman world. The cardo maximus, the north-south axis, once passed beneath the arches, along the columns of bricks that mark its route. The monumental statues of Julius Caesar and Augustus, copies of the statues in the Forum in Rome, were placed here during the Fascist period.
