The Michelin Guide's review
Malta's main church, a genuine ode to the Baroque, dates from 1573 to 1577 (it was decorated a century later) and was built for the Knights of the Order of Malta. Admire the lavish sculpture, gilt work, paintings and other interior ornamentation, all of which is priceless. Look out for the splendid vault, in particular, and the fine marble floor, works by Caravaggio and other treasures. Beware: very popular and often very crowded...
