The Michelin Guide's review
Andrea Verrochio, Leonardo da Vinci's master, sculpted this 15C equestrian statue in memory of the mercenary warlord, Colleoni (1400-75). The statue depicts a proud mounted warrior whose fierce demeanour and spirited steed make for a magnificent spectacle, further enhanced by the bulky plinth on which it stands. It is so lifelike that Colleoni seems to be on the point of galloping off!
