Villa La Rotonda

Well worth the diversions
Civil and military monument
The Michelin Guide's review
Built at the height of Palladio's artistic career in 1567, the Rotonda is a beautifully proportioned villa which looks like an ancient temple. The square building is roofed with a dome, in a structure which represents order and harmony. The villa's four porticos with identical columns face the four cardinal points. Inside the building, the frescoes were painted by Alessandro Maganza and Louis Dorigny in the 17C. The villa is particularly beautiful in the evening, when the sun is setting.
