The Michelin Guide's review
This Buddha Park, or "Spirit City" (xieng khouan), was created in 1958 by a mystic monk and artist on the outskirts of Vientiane. It is home to hundreds of giant sculptures made from concrete, including Hindu divinities, mythological animals and classic scenes from the story of the Buddha. In particular, admire the extraordinary "pumpkin" sculpture with passageways, stairways and three stories representing hell, earth and paradise. The highlight of the park is the large and highly venerated reclining Buddha.
