The Michelin Guide's review
The olive-green-colored "sand" is actually made up of a mineral called olivine. Olivine is created when basaltic lava cools. This semiprecious stone is also found in Iceland (the site of much geothermic activity) and on the moon. Nearby Ka Lae is the southernmost tip of the United States, and is also believed to be the first landfall of arriving Polynesians.
