The plans for the Michaelertrakt, the St Michael's Wing of the Hofburg, were drawn up by Joseph Emanuel Fischer, although the wing itself was not built until 1892-93. The façade of this semi-circular building facing St Michael's church (the former church of the court) and the Looshaus (built by architect Loos between 1909 and 1911) is adorned with two monumental fountains decorated with statues. The main arches are closed by beautiful gilded bronze gates.
