The Michelin Guide's review
The house of the Shen Wansan provides an enlightening insight into bourgeois China in the 18C. By strolling through the kitchen (which has preserved its original stoves), entering the bedrooms (arranged in the mysterious half-light of the attic), where you can admire a red and gold four-poster bed, it's possible to imagine the life of the well-to-do Shen family who built this residence with no fewer than 100 rooms and 7 courtyards.
