The Michelin Guide's review
This picturesque monastery (14C) is huddled around the collegiate church. The site's appeal lies as much in its rural setting as in its sober architecture. The story goes that, during the mass to celebrate Assumption in Santa Lucía de Garay in 968, an eagle flew over the congregation and seized a skull protruding from the church's tombs. This scene has been depicted on the Zenarruza coat of arms ever since. You can see an illustration on the outside wall of the east door.
