Chingaza National Natural Park
The Green Guide

Useful information

Description

With its natural and artificial lakes, this park is in a sense the water tower of Bogotá. By filtering the mountain rainfall, the vegetation of the swamps provides the capital with 90% of its drinking water. Espeletia (plants with a thick trunk and hairy leaves) dot the landscape. The park is inhabited by spectacled bears, mountain tapirs, cocks-of-the-rock and Andean condor. Three glacial lakes are accessible to visitors: Buitrago, Teusaca and Siecha.
