Description

Edward I instigated the construction of Aberystwyth Castle, of which only ruins remain today, on the site of an earlier stronghold. In 1414 the castle was captured by the Welsh Prince, Owain Glyndŵr, who pronounced there the creation of an independent Welsh Church and the founding of two universities.
