Description

This vast space connects the historical quarters with the newer ones being developed along the Route des Sanguinaires. The square, extended by a terrace, offers a fine view across Ajaccio Bay. At the centre is the bronze monument of Napoleon on horseback, dressed as a Roman Emperor, and his four brothers, designed by Viollet-le-Duc. At the corner with Cours Napoléon, note the imperial crown hanging above the street, which at nighttime lights up the main crossroads of the city with its multicoloured bulbs.
