Description

From the 11-13C, Ardara, then the judicial capital of Torres, enjoyed relative importance. The austere outline of the church of Santa Maria del Regno dominating the town bears witness to this status. The massive architecture of the façade is alleviated by narrow pilasters and a delicate double window over the porch. The severe interior is home to a superb altarpiece, Retablo maggiore di Ardara, a large-scale polyptych by Giovanni Muru and his school in the early 16C.
