Useful information

Description

By far the town's most imposing religious edifice, this massive cathedral, built in 1656, three times destroyed and rebuilt and finished in 1844, graces the entire northern side of the Plaza de Armas. Its striking neoclassical façade made out of white volcanic sillar features a row of 70 columns embellished with Corinthian capitals. The eclectic, airy interior is home to the largest organ case in South America (1852). The museum displays over 250 words of sacred art.
