In the 19C, when the artists left their studios, thirsty for "fresh air", many of them headed for the Creuse valley, between the Parisian basin and the Massif Central, attracted by its unspoiled landscapes and picturesque features. Don't miss the boucle du Pin, which commands a fine view of this meander in the River Creuse among hills and rocky outcrops; the Romanesque Ceaulmont church is on a spur opposite.
