Inspired by the Loire castles, this opulent 250-room edifice (1895) belonged to George Vanderbilt, grandson of railway tycoon Cornelius Vanderbilt. Equipped with central heating, electricity and two elevators, it was at the cutting-edge of technology at its creation. During the visit, you will see artifacts, 16C Flemish tapestries, leather-bound books, as well as a winery and French formal gardens. Beware - it is often packed to the seams!
