Useful information

Description

Three temples formerly situated south of Aswan were moved up onto a little island of Lake Nasser, upstream of the High Dam. Built in Ptolemaic times by Emperor Augustus and dedicated to the Nubian god Mandulis (the equivalent of Horus), the Temple of Kalabsha is, with Philae and Abu Simbel, one of Nubia's greatest sanctuaries. Although little remains of Kertassi Temple, Beit el-Wali Temple contains remarkable and highly evocative reliefs glorifying Rameses II. Its name (house of the holy man) proves that it was used by the Christians.
