Useful information

Description

Visitors will find a little bit of everything pertaining to local history in this sprawling 1905 Neoclassical building, formerly Astoria's city hall. Displays detail the lives of the local Clatsop tribe, the journey of Lewis and Clark, pioneer days and the early years of development. Unusual exhibits include a Tong Altar, which hearkens back to the time when thousands of Chinese immigrants came to Astoria to work in the salmon canneries, and photos and artifacts about the dark days in the 1910s and 1920s when the Ku Klux Klan controlled much of Astoria's political and social life.
