Description

The official library/museum of Jimmy Carter, the 39th president of the US (1977-81), opened in 1986. Its Carter Library Museum features a pictorial biography of Carter's rise from a Georgia peanut farmer to the nation's president, exhibits describing his major political accomplishments, and an exact replica of the Oval Office. Next door, the nonprofit Carter Center (not open to the public) was established by the former president to promote worldwide democracy and to fight disease and poverty.
