Useful information

Description

The fort stands on the Chignecto Isthmus, linking New Brunswick to Nova Scotia. The region, formerly Acadia settled by the French, was the scene of bloody conflict between the French and English. The conquered Acadians were deported. Of Fort Beauséjour, later called Fort Cumberland, all that remains are three restored underground casemates that can be visited and some scant ruins. The visitor centre charts the history of the fort, the Acadians and the region.
