Ta Muen Temples

Useful information

Description

The district of Ta Muen is home to the remains of three Khmer monuments built in the Bayon style and dating back to the reign of Jayavarman VII (1181-1218). They line the former royal road which linked Angkor with Phimai and played a key commercial and military role between the two cities. In this honey-coloured rural landscape, dissected by roads built of red earth, you can visit Prasat Ta Muen, Prasat Ta Muen Toch and Prasat Ta Muen Thom, the most impressive of the three. Make sure you don't head away from the temple and into the forest as the land is still mined here. The site is best avoided at nightfall.
