Useful information

Description

The protected Pedernales peninsula is home to the country's largest biodiversity extending from arid forest around Lago Enriquillo to tropical forest in the Sierra de Bahoruco. The scenic road (Route 44) from Barahona to Pedernales takes you on excursions inland and to the coast: pebble stone beaches of Paraíso and Enriquillo, white sandy pristine beaches of Las Águilas, red dirt tracks to bauxite mines, forests of Sierra de Bahoruco, mangroves of Oviedo Lagoon with their pink flamingos and arid landscapes in the vicinity of the Pedernales.
