Perched high up, the huge archaeological site of Ceide Fields gives you an insight into County Mayo's history since prehistory. Although the excavations are of little interest to the layman, the reconstruction of a 5 000-year-old abode, the explanations given on how peat bogs are gradually created, and a beautiful film on the region's natural wonders make for a fascinating visit. Opposite the car park, the view over the high black cliffs is impressive.
