This narrow mangrove-lined beach covered with halophilic plants (which live in saltwater environments) remains one of the most pleasant in the region. It was here on 2 December 1956 that the vessel Granma disembarked Fidel Castro and his comrades on their way to overthrow Batista. A memorial nearby commemorates the event.
