Oued el Abib, an active torrent and main tributary of the Oum er-Rbia, has carved a deep 400m-600m gorge in the western part of the Middle Atlas mountains. The steep red face of the gorge rises up on the left. The narrow tarmac road winds along the cliff above the vertical wall, heads abruptly downward in a series of spectacular hairpin bends towards the river, then crosses over a metal bridge affording a view of the mouth of the canyon.
