Description
Although the basilica dates from 12C, the North and South porches were added by Giovanni da Campione in the 14C. The Baroque interior is rife with gildings and stucco plus has nine superb 16C Florentine tapestries based on cartoons by Alessandro Allori recounting the life of the Virgin. At the back of the nave, there is a sumptuous Antwerp tapestry and a Crucifixion... The Baroque confessional is astonishing, as are the panels of inlaid work depicting scenes from the Old Testament.
