Useful information

Description

Built between 1747 and 1773, this church is inspired by the Pantheon in Rome. Frederick II dedicated the church to the Catholic St Hedwig, the patron saint of recently conquered Silesia. The cathedral is renowned for its large dome and pediment carved with biblical scenes. One of the chapels in the lower church houses the treasure of the archbishopric of Berlin as well as the tomb of Bernhard Lichtenberg, a cathedral priest who died during his transportation to Dachau in 1943.
