Useful information

Description

Queen Sophie-Charlotte had visited the gardens of Le Nôtre during a visit to France and was much impressed by his work. For this reason, Le Nôtre's pupil, Siméon Godeau, was asked to design the Schlossgarten Charlottenburg in 1697. He created a typical formal French garden along strict geometric lines. Destroyed by bombing during the war, the gardens were subsequently restored and now combine the formal French style (in the centre) with an English-style landscaped park.
