Birmingham Botanical Gardens and Glasshouses
The Green Guide
Westbourne, Birmingham B15 3TR
These delightful gardens, laid out across 6ha, were first opened in 1832, and have stayed more or less true to J.C. Loudon's original design. Here, visitors can admire exotic birds in the 19C aviaries and elegant 19C greenhouses, one of which, the Tropical House, grows pineapples, bananas and sugar cane. The National Bonsai Collection is located close to the Japanese Garden.
