Useful information

Description

Donated to the city of Boston in 1742 by the merchant Peter Faneuil, this revered landmark was enlarged by Charles Bulfinch in 1806. It was used as a meeting room during the War of Independence and its platform has paid host to the greatest figures in American history. Its dome is crowned by the famous weather vane representing a grasshopper, the emblem of the port of Boston since the 18C. Inside, the large meeting room is used for naturalisation ceremonies for new American citizens.
