Description

The Catedral Metropolitana, architect Oscar Niemeyer's masterpiece, is a monument that soars towards the sky in a design that perfectly sublimates the Christian faith. The 16 curved columns, facing outwards, hardly seem to touch the ground. Inside, the stained-glass windows at the top of the building reflect the sky's every possible shade of blue in an interplay of shadows and marks on the white-marble floors, providing a fabulous azure backdrop for Ceschiatti's "flying" angels. A truly luminous space!
