Useful information

Description

- if Queen Elizabeth I can be believed - built of light-coloured Dundry stone. Its architecture is a perfect epitome of Gothic style, developing from the 12-13C Early English style to Decorated and then to Perpendicular (c. 14C). The spire (1872) towers over the city at a height of 90 m. Inside, the slender pillars of the nave support ribbed vaults. Each of the 1,200 intersecting ribs is masked by a different keystone. Note the late-16C wooden statue of Queen Elizabeth I, the medieval octagonal fonts in the right-hand side aisle and a brass candelabra dating from the 18C in the ambulatory.
