This suburb, an independent town until 1873, is the oldest part of Budapest. Its name also means old (ó) Buda. In Roman times, it was the site of a military town, with a "civilian" town nearby, Quincum. The lanes around Fö tér (Fö square) with their colourful houses and ancient streetlights are well worth a visit. In summertime, hosts of café and restaurant terraces invite the stroller to pause and rest for a minute or two.
