Description

Mining was the cornerstone of Sulcis' economy from 1937 to 1971, when it was one of Italy's main energy resource providers. The vast mining site has been turned into a cultural centre for energy research. The Museo del Carbone charts the history of coal, mining and the town. A visit to the extraction machine rooms and a guided tour of one of the underground galleries recreate the atmosphere of the mine.
