Useful information

Description

This Anglo-Norman castle, standing on a basalt spur above Belfast Lough and the port, was built by John de Courcy in the late 12C and is the best preserved in Ireland. Visiting the castle helps you imagine the building's strategic importance and appreciate the complexity of its fortifications. In the keep, there is a video-show that reconstructs the atmosphere of medieval fairs; while wax characters liven up the austere premises.
