Useful information

Description

The jewel of Cashel dates from the 12C. In elaborate Romanesque style, it is embellished by sculpture, unique in Ireland: human faces and animals depicted in the purest Celtic tradition. A sarcophagus bears carved interlacing of Viking inspiration. A centaur threatens a lion from his arch in the tympanum over the north door.
